Bravo, for a great book by
Dr. Ken Hanson! A number of books are currently in print, examining every angle of the complex fabric of mysticism, Kabbalah being the focal point of many of them. Most of this material is, however, admittedly "scholarly" in nature ... which means that the reader virtually has to be a scholar him- or herself simply to follow the thread of it all. The trouble is, scholars generally write for other scholars, with their own scholastic points to make and axes to grind, often not realizing that there is a world of people out there who know little if anything about the deeply obscure realm of the mystics, but would like to be introduced ... gently. Given the modern fascination with the topic, as well as the blind terror people experience in turning the pages of "heady" scholarship, I decided to write a "kinder, gentler" volume, weaving the content of Kabbalah with the incredible story of its writers -- from the ancient ESSENES, who wrote the DEAD SEA SCROLLS, to generations of sages whose lifetimes span three millennia and whose travels lead us on a genuine adventure across many lands and multiple human cultures. In the final analysis, Kabbalah is more than an esoteric discipline. It is a travelogue; it is a great and compelling untold story. |
